A Local's Guide to De Waterkant

De Waterkant is Cape Town's most charming and walkable quarter — cobblestone lanes, Cape Dutch cottages, and some of the city's best eating and drinking all within a few blocks.

De Waterkant: The Village in the City

Just a 5-minute walk from BoKaap House, De Waterkant feels like a village that somehow ended up in the middle of Cape Town. Narrow lanes, pastel-painted houses, and a social scene that runs from brunch through to midnight.

What to See & Do

The Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village A converted heritage precinct housing independent boutiques, restaurants, and a weekend market. Good for a browse on a Saturday morning.

Hudson Street The main artery of De Waterkant — lined with restaurants, wine bars, and boutiques. Walk the full length and stop wherever takes your fancy.

The Cobblestone Lanes Just wander. De Waterkant's charm is in the unplanned — turning a corner to find a bougainvillea-draped wall or a hidden courtyard.

Where to Eat

The Leopard — Upscale bistro with a relaxed feel and a serious wine list. Great for a proper dinner.

Burrata — Italian-inspired, unfussy, and always good. The pasta and the cheese (obviously) are the draw.

Tjing Tjing — Rooftop bar and restaurant with Japanese-inspired small plates and one of the city's best views. Book ahead.
