Transport in the Bo-Kaap, Cape Town
Practical

Transport

Getting to, from, and around the Bo-Kaap.

The Bo-Kaap’s position — perched on the slopes of Signal Hill between the CBD and the Atlantic Seaboard — makes it one of Cape Town’s most centrally located neighbourhoods. Most of the city centre is within a 10–15 minute walk. For destinations further afield, ride-hailing, the MyCiti bus, and private transport are all readily available.

Key Highlights

Walking

The CBD, Company’s Garden, Long Street, and De Waterkant are all within a 5–15 minute walk. The V&A Waterfront is about 20 minutes on foot.

MyCiti Bus

The nearest MyCiti stops are at the Civic Centre and along Buitengracht Street, connecting to the wider network.

Ride-Hailing

Uber and Bolt operate throughout Cape Town and are the most convenient way to get around, especially at night.

Driving & Parking

Street parking in the Bo-Kaap is limited. If you have a car, confirm parking arrangements with your accommodation. The streets are narrow and some are one-way.

To/From the Airport

Cape Town International Airport is about 20–25 minutes by car. Uber costs approximately R250–R350. The MyCiti A01 route also connects the airport to the Civic Centre.
